The Nissan Titan XD occupies an interesting space in the full-size pickup truck segment, splitting the difference between light-duty models (like the base Titan) and heavy-duty trucks. Nissan says this approach allows its customers to get near-heavy-duty capability at something closer to a light-duty price. Still, it's possible to option a Titan XD to $80,000.
For 2019, the Titan XD gains a few new features: a 7.0-inch infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality; Nissan's rear door alert, which reminds the driver to check the back seat before locking and walking away from the truck; a new USB media port; PRO-4X, SL and Platinum get two USB-A charge ports; a body-colour grille frame with black centre for SV trim; a larger diesel exhaust fluid tank (for diesel models); and a pair of new paint colours.
Power comes from either a 5.6L gas V8 (390 hp/394 lb-ft of torque) matched to a seven-speed automatic transmission, or an optional Cummins-built 5.0L diesel V8 good for 310 hp and 555 lb-ft, and mated to a six-speed automatic. That diesel is potent, but note that heavy-duty trucks from Titan's domestic competitors offer as much as 1,000(!) lb-ft of torque.
Titan XD's capabilities include a 5,400-kg tow rating and a 907-kg payload. All Titan XD trucks come in Crew Cab form with a 5.5-foot bed.
Standard features in S trim include 17-inch steel wheels, sliding rear window, LED cargo bed lights, locking tailgate, air conditioning, power windows/locks/mirrors, cruise control, vinyl flooring, front bench seat, cloth upholstery, six-speaker stereo and tire pressure monitoring.
SV trim adds engine and gas tank skid plates, front tow hooks, extendable side mirrors, Class IV tow hitch receiver, mood lighting, carpeted floor, satellite radio and trailer sway control.
PRO-4X models get 18-inch alloy wheels, all terrain tires, transfer case and radiator skid plates, LED headlights and daytime running lights, passive keyless entry, fog lights, power sliding rear window, under-rail bed lighting, tailgate illumination, navigation, backup camera, dual-zone automatic air conditioning, rain-sensing wipers, front captain's chairs with console, eight-way power driver's seat, leather-trimmed steering wheel, a 12-speaker stereo, blind spot warning with rear cross traffic alert and moving object detection.
Platinum trim brings 20-inch wheels, running boards, 360-degree exterior camera system, remote engine start, power-adjustable steering column, garage door opener, auto-dimming rearview mirror, power front passenger seat, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, driver's seat memory and a heated and wood-trimmed steering wheel.
As a heavy-duty truck, Natural Resources Canada doesn't require the Titan XD to be rated for fuel consumption. The regular Titan Crew Cab with the 5.6L gas V8 is rated 15.2/11.1 L/100 km, and we suspect the XD is thirstier.
